Montréal, the Paris of North America, is aptly named as it is the largest French speaking city in the world, next to Paris. With a population of 3,359,000 people, it's also the second largest city in Canada next to Toronto.

Standing atop of Mount Royal gives you a great glimpse of this diverse city, but it's from up close that you really notice the cultural gem that Montréal is. With over 20 museums in the downtown area, great shopping both outdoor and in the underground city, and scrumptious food available to sample, Montréal is a great place to visit. It's also home to the NHL's legendary Montréal Canadiens ands the CFL's Montréal Allouettes.

In the summer, Montréal opens up to some of the world's finest entertainers at the internationally acclaimed Montréal Jazz Festival and the Just For Laughs Festival.

Quebec Hotels

Visitors to Quebec will find the full range of accommodations, from budget lodgings to the most elegant deluxe hotels. Some of the familiar motel chains appear in the province, but visitors outside the major cities are much more likely to encounter a wide range of privately run motels, small hotels, country inns, resorts, farm vacation spots and bed-and-breakfasts. Areas containing popular attractions (the Laurentians, the north shore of the St. Lawrence) offer the most choices, including chalets and condos, but along the way, a single motel may be your only option. Quebec resort hotels can be the height of established elegance—the massive Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu in Pointe au Pic, built in 1928, is one of many top-notch hotels in the area..

Resort possibilities range from health and fitness spas to luxury hotels with golf, tennis, pools, lawn games and sweeping views of mountains or rivers. Outdoor enthusiasts will find a wide selection of campgrounds and fishing lodges or cabins (some in very remote areas), ranging from very rustic (tents) to comfortable. People from Quebec know how to enjoy themselves in winter, so many properties are open year-round. Book well in advance if you want to be sure to get a room.
